Mayer Brown // Campaigns
How businesses operate – strategically and ethically – has never been of greater importance to the City of London’s global reputation. And despite the financial crisis whirlwind, Britain still leads the world in effective corporate governance structures.
As a major global law firm and close adviser to some of the City’s biggest names, Mayer Brown wanted to play a part in sparking the debate and help uncover how businesses and their advisers can ensure they avoid repeating the economic and governance cycles of boom and bust. The firm’s sponsorship of TheCityUK’s prestigious annual dinner seemed the perfect opportunity to begin this project and we worked closely with the firm to not only produce an independent report on the topic but also to make a film which was sent to the 400 plus attendees in advance of the dinner via an innovative video card. Both involved interviewing some of the biggest names in the City as well as leading figures in the UK’s corporate governance sector, including representatives of Mayer Brown, TheCityUK, Grant Thornton, the Institute of Business Ethics and Hermes EOS.
We’re very proud of our contribution to this project. We believe that the output certainly went some way to answering questions about how businesses define corporate governance and how does its concept and executive affect what matters most to the City of London – its wider reputation in the global economic marketplace and its profitability.
